Family Issues and Trauma
I enjoy supporting Texas clients who are adults wanting to process past or present family issues or trauma. I know how important it is to find someone who listens with compassion and understanding. Many people need to intentionally process and sort through their feelings about their childhood. You might have a good relationship with imperfect parents, you might be no-contact with relatives, or anywhere in between. Different people make meaning of their experiences in unique ways, there is no one right way to label or feel about your family experiences.
Some people’s experiences are traumatic. Others might not consider that label a fit for them. I try to be flexible to how each of my clients feel and talk about their experiences. Complex or relational trauma describes the deep emotional, cognitive, and/or somatic impact on our minds and bodies, left in the wake of emotional neglect or abuse from family. Depending on your situation, talk therapy with a humanistic counselor like me might be a good fit. Some might look instead for EMDR or other kinds of therapies for trauma, or a combination of approaches. I assess continually, both before and after we start our sessions to see if my approach is a good fit for the client’s needs.
I have written some thoughts about family of origin issues and complex trauma on my blog, linked here.
You must reside in Texas; I accept private pay only; I offer sessions during weekdays between 9-2; only video teletherapy is available.
I assess each client for the right match and the appropriate level of clinical care. If you are dealing with a presenting concern that is outside of the scope of my practice, I will refer you to a more clinically appropriate provider.
